Terms of Use — MathWrite Notes

These terms are the agreement between you and Andrés Osorio Leyenda, sole trader, NIF 45907486S, Calle Boqueixón Nº 1, 15702 Santiago de Compostela, Spain ("we", "us"), for the use of the MathWrite Notes app. By using the app you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

Apple requires that apps offering subscriptions provide an end-user licence agreement. These terms serve as that agreement; where they are silent, Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement applies.

1. The licence

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.

You may not copy, sell, rent, sub-licence, reverse-engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except where that restriction is prohibited by law.

2. Your account

You need an account to use the app. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity under your account. Tell us at contact@mathwrite.com if you believe it has been used without your permission.

You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live.

3. Your content

Your notes are yours. We claim no ownership of anything you write, scan or import.

Your notebooks are stored on your device, not on our servers — see the Privacy Policy. Keeping your own backups is your responsibility; we cannot restore content we never held.

You grant us only the permission technically required to provide the features you use: to transmit a page image for LaTeX conversion, and to transmit LaTeX for compilation. That permission ends when the request completes.

You are responsible for what you put into the app, and for having the right to do so.

4. Free plan and subscriptions

The app can be used without paying. A free account may keep one notebook and write in it without limit, and gets a one-off allowance of a small number of LaTeX conversions and compilations. That allowance is granted once per account and does not renew. Scanning documents, importing a PDF for conversion, and additional notebooks require a subscription.

The current allowance is shown in the app when it is relevant. We may change it; a reduction applies to accounts created afterwards, and never removes allowance you have already been granted.

  • Plans. Yearly and monthly, at the prices shown in the app for your region.
  • Free trial. The yearly plan may include a free trial. Its length is shown before

    • you subscribe. If you have notifications enabled, the app reminds you two days before the trial converts to a paid subscription. Apple does not send that reminder, so cancelling in time remains your responsibility.

  • Billing. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase.
  • Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled **at least 24 hours

    • before** the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.

  • Trials and offers. If you subscribe to a plan with a free trial, the unused part

    • of that trial is forfeited when you purchase.

  • Eligibility. Introductory offers are granted by Apple and are usually available

    • only once per Apple ID.

  • Cancelling. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings, not in

    • this app. We cannot cancel it for you.

  • Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are governed by Apple's

    • policy and requested from Apple.

    If you are a consumer in the EU, your statutory right of withdrawal applies as provided by law; note that it may be lost once digital content has been supplied with your consent.

    5. Usage limits

    A subscriber's conversion and compilation are subject to a fair-use monthly limit, set well above ordinary use and intended to stop automated abuse rather than to ration normal work. It is not displayed in the app. We may change it, with notice in the app for any material reduction.

    A free account's allowance is the one described in section 4: granted once, and not a monthly quota.

    In either case we may limit or suspend use that we reasonably believe is automated, abusive or intended to circumvent the limits — including creating repeated accounts to obtain the free allowance more than once.

    6. Third-party services

    The app relies on services we do not control: Apple, Google (sign-in and the Gemini API used for conversion), Supabase, Superwall, RevenueCat and Overleaf. Your use of Overleaf is governed by Overleaf's own terms. We are not responsible for those services, but we do tell you what we send to them — see the Privacy Policy.

    7. Accuracy of conversion

    LaTeX conversion is produced by an AI model and may be wrong. It may misread symbols, omit content, or produce LaTeX that does not compile. Check the output before relying on it, especially for coursework, submissions or publication. We do not warrant that conversion is accurate or complete.

    8. Availability

    We aim to keep the service available but do not guarantee it. Features that need our servers — conversion and compilation — may be unavailable during maintenance or outages. Writing, reading and organising your notebooks work offline and do not depend on us.

    9. Ending this agreement

    You may stop using the app at any time and delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete account.

    We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms, or if we stop offering the app. If we end your access for our own convenience while you hold a paid subscription, you may seek a pro-rated refund from Apple.

    10. Liability

    Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

    Subject to that, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data or content stored on your device; and our total liability arising from the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

    If you are a consumer, you keep all rights that consumer law gives you.

    11. Governing law

    These terms are governed by the laws of Spain.

    If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings there.

    12. Changes

    We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect; continuing to use the app after that means you accept them.
